Panama Nuguo Geisha Washed パナマ ヌグオ ゲイシャ ウォッシュド Orange blossom, Lily, Lemongrass, Honey オレンジブロッサム、ユリ、レモングラス、ハチミツ ガヤルド農園は、1960年からガヤルド・ファミリーがトラディショナル品種の生産を始め、15年前、現農園主であるホセ・マヌエル・ガヤルドが、ヌグオと呼ばれる農園区画にゲイシャを導入、Nuguo（ヌグオ）ブランドがスタートしました。 山深い、標高1,850ｍ以上にあるヌグオは、この地域特有のマイクロ気候と、雨の多い豊かな森の中にあり、コーヒーの生育にはまたとない恵まれた自然環境と共生しながら、独自のコーヒー栽培と、プロセスの研究を重ねています。 そんなヌグオは2021年、世界最高峰のコーヒー品評会である、ベスト・オブ・パナマのゲイシャ部門で優勝を果たしました。 ベスト・オブ・パナマは昨年に続き、パナマ国内のジャッジによる「ナショナル・ジャッジ」と、オンラインを利用した「インターナショナル・ジャッジ」の、二段階の審査でしたが、その年はいずれのロットも途中結果は公表されず、エントリーされたロットの生産者は最後までわからない流れとなっていました。 そんな中で、まさに「知る人ぞ知る」ガヤルド農園、ホセ・マヌエルのゲイシャが、94.75ptという、ずば抜けた高スコアで1位を獲得し、パナマと世界のコーヒー関係者をあっと驚かせたわけです。 その「ヌグオ」を作り、世に出したホセ・マヌエル・ガヤルドは、どのようなコーヒーづくりをしているのでしょうか。 昨今の困難な状況だからこそ、さらに高い品質と価値を追求することで、生産者と彼らを支える地域、そして自然環境をより良いものにしていこうとするパナマの生産者たちのストーリーに、また新たな1ページが加わることになりました。 ----- The Gallardo family began producing traditional coffee varieties at Gallardo Farm in 1960. Fifteen years ago, the current owner, José Manuel Gallardo, introduced the Geisha variety to a specific plot known as "Nuguo," marking the launch of the Nuguo brand. Situated deep in the mountains at an altitude of over 1,850 meters, Nuguo benefits from a unique microclimate and a lush, rainy forest environment. Coexisting with this exceptional natural setting, the farm continuously refines its unique cultivation and processing methods. In 2021, Nuguo achieved victory in the Geisha category at the "Best of Panama," one of the world's most prestigious coffee competitions. As in the previous year, the competition involved a two-stage judging process: "National Judges" based in Panama and "International Judges" participating online. However, that year, interim results were not disclosed, meaning the identities of the producers behind the entries remained unknown until the very end. Amidst this suspense, José Manuel Gallardo’s Geisha—from a farm known primarily to a select few connoisseurs—took first place with an outstanding score of 94.75 points, stunning coffee professionals in Panama and around the world.
