In response to the increasing risk of crop diseases due to global warming, the group focuses on reducing chemical use and preserving soil nutrients to achieve sustainable agriculture. In addition, varieties provided by the Costa Rican seed bank “Katie” were grown on a trial basis and selected over a period of about three years.zv The transition to exotic varieties suited to the region, such as SL28, Villa Sarchi, and F1, has been progressing. One such example is Orange Typica, which, despite being young as of 2022, is already praised for its bright and juicy flavors. Expectations are high for its future growth and increased production.
